How to reinstall firmware on a wiped gen7 device?

Hi Team,

I had wiped a gen7 device and tried to reinstall firmware on it. But there are no kb or guide on how to reinstall firmware over USB. Can you give me some instruction?

    I think KB on that part is missing. Are you not able to launch the SonicWall safemode using the default IP address 192.168.168.168 from X0 interface behind and then upload the firmware to boot the SonicWall?

    No, I had wiped the device.

    Safemode is not available.

    Hi @NAT,

    I get your point. Are you not seeing upgrade option after inserting the USB? If so, could you please ensure the USB format to FAT32 and then try?

    No, just the console logs, it will keep retry and restart.

    USB already on MBR mode and FAT32 format.

    I wonder what I need to put inside the USB? I just put the firmware inside.

    @NAT - Few more points to be noted,

    • The firmware file must be in the root directory of the first partition.
    • The file must be named after the model on which you wish to install , in lowercase, with no spaces, for example:
    1. tz570w.bin.sig
    2. tz570.bin.sig

    I think there are some extra steps which needed to follow.

    Looking for '/boot-a.fit' on usb partition 0.

     Not found

    Couldnt find recovery image

    I had already opened a support ticket #43590221 - USB Recovery Stick does not work but support just gave me the KB:

    surely the wipe device option should only be made available via the Serial connection on non Beta devices?

    I can see a lot of other people choosing this option by mistake in the Safemode GUI, not realising it literally wipes the device and will have no OS on and then they will need the boot-a-fit files from SonicWall to get the appliance back up

    Just to have some closure on the subject, beside the firmware that need to be put on an USB stick (MBR/FAT32) renamed as <model>.bin.sig, you need another 2 files (boot-a.fit and boot-a.cfg) that are SPECIFIC for the your model. Those 2 files can be requested in a support case. You cannot use the files for a different model because it contains the drivers for that particular model and a subset of minimal utilities (as a recovery ram disk on Linux).

    Navigate to My Products and locate the product being upgraded.

    Under the Support column click the Firmware icon.

    Click Download link next to the latest version (. sig file).

    Save the new SonicOS firmware to a directory on your management computer.
