Which firewall to choose for a small office of about 50 devices.

Hi,

I am looking at the datasheets for the Gen7 Tz models here

https://www.sonicwall.com/medialibrary/en/datasheet/sonicwall-tz-series-gen-7.pdf

but they don't seem to list how many devices it can handle up to / a recommended range of devices.

Is there some where I can check this?

I need to replace a soho250 model.

Thanks

It depends on how much you'll stress the appliance. If you're fine with a SOHO 250 right now, the TZ 270 will be more than good for that job.

But if you plan to activate all Security Services, doing DPI-SSL, SSL-VPN and IPsec you're probably in the TZ 670/NSa 2700 range. Depends on the bandwidth of your Internet access as well.

Firewall sizing is not easy, unfortunately.

A "this number of devices" firewall isn't particularly meaningful given that there is no such thing as an "average" device. What you need to size the firewall is to know how much throughput you want to attain and how many of the services will be on.

The spec sheets from Sonicwall are…let's say…"optimistic".
