How to detect if NetExtender / GlobalVPN (Windows) has active connection

Is there a way to detect an active VPN connection by file or registry key?

Background: We want to restrict software deployment depending on a client being inside LAN or not. Unfortunately, deployment tool can only check for files and/or registry keys (content and existence). We're using both GlobalVPN and SSLVPN clients.
