Can someone help me understand the trusted/public zone security types & how to properly use them?

Can someone help me with understanding the relationship trusted and public zone security types and how they work. I've diligently read the Sonicwall documentation and searched beyond that, however I'm not picking up on how to properly use them.

I'm setting up multiple vlans and using zones to keep them separate and I'm not sure I'm using the security types properly. Furthermore, some help understanding the "Interface Trust" setting would be greatly appreciated as well.
