This seems unacceptable to me that Sonicwall would release an application so unstable. Are they not thoroughly testing their stuff or are they just hoping to use customers as a test bed?

Yeesh.. well honestly, the only reason I want to use NSM right now is for the firewall analytics, auditing and reporting functionalities. Really? If there were issues with Gen6 NSA's, why would Sonicwall sell/support NSM for those models? I don't really have a way to do a test setup for the 3600's so I'll have to take the chance. If it doesn't work, I will have to see about getting refunded, and that would be unfortunate.
