WAN interface /28 ip range

TZ-500

I have a single /32 static ip address currently assigned to the WAN interface. I need to change this to a /28 as I need to expose devices the internet. On the WAN interface settings it will not take the ip values x.x.x.x/28. Is this possible on a TZ500? Am I missing something or doing something wrong?

Thanks

    Hello @cybron,

    Welcome to SonicWall community.

Yes, it should certainly allow you to assign a /28 subnet mask on the WAN interface.

I hope you are entering one of the IP addresses from the pool on the interface with subnet mask as 255.255.255.240.

Also, when you say that it is not allowing it, what error message are you seeing on the bottom right hand side of the screen during the change?

    Thanks!

  • Dear @Cybron,

In this case, you should use one of the usable IP address in the range and you can't use both network IP or broadcast IP in any interface.

    Example : 123.231.43.0/28

    Network ID: 11111111 11111111 11111111 11110000

    Total 32 bit - 28 = 4

    Last Incremental is 16

Usable IP: 16-2 = 14 usable IP in range

    Network IP : 123.231.43.0

    First usable IP: 123.231.43.1

    Last usable IP: 123.231.43.14

    Broadcast IP: 123.231.43.15

You can use from 123.231.43.1 - 123.231.43.14 but make sure use gateway in the range.

Thanks everyone I am all set. It was configured correctly from the start. My mistake was from habit of working with other firewalls where there was no subnet field. I'm used to entering the IP followed by the /28 all under the IP field. I didn't realize that I had already assigned it on the subnet field. I overlooked this one. I appreciate your help.
  • @cybron,

No problem at all. Glad that it is all working fine now. Have a good day!
