Enable Firmware Auto-Update

Hi

We recently had a serious problem caused by the fact that the firmware of our Sonicwall (TZ 570) needed an upgrade. After the upgrade some incompatibilities were detected.

To fix the problem with a SW specialist, we lost 3hours.

Long story short, our netwerk specialist advices now to enable the Firmware Auto-Update.

Personally I'm a bit reluctant to do so.
I would like to know if it is a good idea to enable Auto-Updates (in a production environment).
I think it is better to plan updates on a regular base and for sure outside business hours.

Any suggestions, advises on this matter. Shoot!

    At no point in time would I ever recommend automatic firmware updates for any product in a production environment.

    Confirming what Tim has written.

    There is no reason to "test in production." Use another in lab device, or let others show you the arrows in their backs because they were "bleeding edge" and listened to that kind of SW nonsense.
