subnets

Hi,

I have a question regarding the subnets,

We have a CIDR of 172.31.0.0/16 and have a subnet of 172.31.16.0/20

Now we have 2 servers one with IP 172.31.20.222 and second one with IP 172.31.17.36

Shouldn't these 2 servers be able to ping each others? My understanding is all servers in this 172.31.16.0/20 should be able to communicate with each other or this is not right?

    We need a lot more detail to understand this issue. Are both these devices using the same subnet masks?

    How are they connected to each other? Are they on the same switch?

    Thank you for the reply as always,

    Both servers have the same subnet and gw and both are in the same VPC and we are planing to put a firewall in front of this VPC

     255.255.240.0

     172.31.16.1

    Hi @mrshahin , if both of those IP addresses are in the same subnet 172.31.16.0/20 and they both have subnet masks of 255.255.240.0 regardless of what you set their Gateway IP addresses to, then they don't go through the SonicWall to talk to each other, they would talk directly via the switch as they don't need to go through a gateway as they are the same network. are you using a L3 switch or a L2 one, is the network isolated correctly on the switch from the main 172.31.0.0/16 ?
